Play the Past: Kirby's Dream Land Review

Play the Past: Kirby's Dream Land

Nintendo has a vast Library of games. Spanning from plumbers saving the princess to bounty hunters on a mission for the space federation, and in that mix is a game about a pink puffball named Kirby. With the recent announcement of a new Kirby game coming out in the year of 2018 for the Nintendo Switch I felt like this would be a good time to start from where it all began.

Kirby's humble beginnings

In 1992, Nintendo and Hal Laboratory released a game called Kirby's Dream Land. The game was a success but many felt that it was too easy and as the franchise continued the difficulty stayed about the same. Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kirby intended it to be a simple game that anyone could pick up and play, for more advanced players there was an unlockable hard mode and you could set the lives you started with. Kirby was a smashing hit for the Gameboy selling over a million copies in its first year and in its lifetime selling 5 million copies. Kirby even spawned a wave of games for every Nintendo console since the Original Kirby, which included mainline and spinoff games. When Super Smash Bros was created Kirby was already one of the top characters Nintendo added because of popularity and because Masahiro Sakurai the creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros wanted his creation to be in the fighting game. With all that being said Kirby became an icon, just like his counterparts Mario and Link. I am personally glad that he's around to give us a smile and a couple of laughs.

Kirby's Dream Land Review

Kirby First Adventure was over 25 years ago back in an age of discovery and creativity. Kirby's Dream Land was first introduced on the Gameboy and was an action platformer. It has a cheerful environment and music to match it and unique gameplay. The game starts in a level called Green Greens, where you fight enemies till you reach the first boss Whispy Woods. Which can take about 5 minutes to complete? The game is short 30 minutes short and there are only about 5 levels which can be beaten pretty easily which is why for many gamers out there this is a game they avoid simply because of the difficulty but I believe where this game lacks in difficulty and length it shines in the environment and tone of the game. During this time Kirby didn't have his iconic stealing powers or any of his other abilities, he was still developing his character. Kirby's first adventure is well worth it, despite its short length and simplistic game mechanics, it shines with its music and tone. Check the game out if you're a Nintendo fan or someone looking for a relaxing game to just unwind with, it's well worth the purchase on 3ds.

Nintendo SNES Classic, Is on Its Way!

                                                            SNES Classic

After such a breakout hit like the NES Classic, bolstering 30 pre-installed games. Gamers were hoping for a Snes Counterpart, but Nintendo was keeping us in the dark until today. On their twitter account, they announced the Snes classic, the console is coming out on September 29, Price will be 80$ and will feature 21 pre-installed games. Classics like Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, F-Zero, Super Metroid and there are 16 more games to bolster the strong lineup.

The Odd thing is they're also releasing the canceled Star Fox 2 that was meant to release on the SNES back in the 90s with the Snes Classic. Which has me excited since I always found it strange that they would cancel the sequel to the original Star Fox here's hoping it's as good as the first one. Exciting times for Nintendo, but it does have me thinking when will there be VC for Switch users?

Xbox One X worth the hype ?

                                          Xbox One x

It's the time of E3 and the madness that comes with it. One of the biggest things to be announced was Xbox one x. The brand new Xbox one model to date, it is 40% stronger than any console and can run true 4k naturally unlike the PS4 pro where it runs 4k sometimes. Gameplay can run better not only on 4k tv's but on regular TVs. you can see the difference. Gameplay is much smoother, the worlds feel more alive and the A.I is improved. Load times are sharp and quick, providing you with more game time. This all sounds good, on paper.

So why is it that fans weren't as hyped as say a new console? They're very similar, the Xbox one x seems to be a vast improvement on the Xbox one. The main issue with the Xbox one x is what consoles have been doing for generations now, making newer models to their current console adding tweaks to their console. And for many, that's a let down since they seem to work more on hardware than getting a solid line of games.

Most people don't own a 4k tv yet and I can see what Sony and Microsoft are trying to do, push the way for 4k TVs. But it just feels so like current gaming, too focused on graphics and frame rate and forgetting about the games. What can I say about the Xbox one x, well it's an impressive piece of hardware but what is really my incentive for getting one as someone who hasn't switched to 4k and isn't all that impressed with the game line up and the few exclusives they have.

As always Heres a trailer to see a bit more about the console.

Pokemon June Direct

                                                             Pokemon Direct

Nintendo just had another Direct and it was a surprisingly exciting. First, we got Pokken Tournament DX port for the Nintendo switch new fighters, new modes, and each joy-con can act as a player so naturally, the game is local play. Online is improved this time we have 3v3 team fighting like Marvel vs Capcom, we have online ranked matches and we have daily challenges for players to beat. Pokken Tournament will be released September 22th, 2017, on the Nintendo switch worldwide and will have a playable demo at the e3 convention.
Nintendo also announced Ultra Sun and Moon which will come with new Pokemon and an alternate story and generally improved on. it releases on November 17th, 2017, so be on the lookout for ultra moon and ultra sun.

And the last announcement is Pokemon gold and silver, both games were on the Gameboy and will be on the 3ds virtual console September 22th, 2017. the switch will not be getting these games for the time being since the virtual console hasn't really been announced yet. Exciting times for Nintendo lets continue to see what they can come up with next.

Here is some footage if you missed the announcements and wanted to see some gameplay of the games great Pokemon channel, so subscribe to them if you want to see other Pokemon news and gameplay and keep checking the blog. I'll be keeping up on big Nintendo news, Sony and Microsoft news.

Nintendo Revived ?

Nintendo Switch destined for success or failure?

The Nintendo Switch is an interesting product. In an age of graphical power and squeezing out frame rates, Nintendo took what they knew best and created an innovative product. A home console and a portable device in one with the battery lifespan of 3-6 hours running modern games in portable mode. To this date, the Switch has sold over 2.74 million units in the past 3 months and is predicted to rival that of the Wii first year sales by the end of the year.

It was a major turnaround for Nintendo, they were struggling with the Wii u which was one of their worst selling consoles at 13.56 million units sold in its lifetime and very few games were coming to the console including third party games. Dark times for Nintendo but now they are the talk around the console race, people are wondering if they will get back to their glory days or if this is just another shot at the crown doomed to fail like the Wii u. I'm personally excited to see what turns out and we should have more details on what Nintendo has planned for the future at the e3 convention.
