The Gazer and The Sleep Asylum Review
In this world lies countless stories, some told and others you can only experience to understand. Recently two short stories were released by author Peter Roy La Fleur that had the mind-boggled. Tackling subjects of people who feel let down by society. Who was ultimately left behind by our institutions.
Before we go any further, let's delve into what exactly these short stories are. The Gazer focuses on the madness of society through the eyes of our point of view character. Who feels was ridiculed and treated as the "mad one" and feels humankind has lost its mind with the burden of knowledge.
Many believe that as our civilization advances, we lose a part of what makes our humanity as we look deeper into the well of knowledge. We lose empathy and compassion. Fleur is able to convey what lies underneath it, showing what it looks like to lose trust in our world and how it can distance you to a point where you are no longer a part of it.
Going even deeper into our psychology is our second short story, The Sleep Asylum. Which deals with mental health, our medical institutions failing to take care of all their patients. How even those left behind due to minor issues are suffering in their mental prisons.
They both connect through the theme of the mind. Each point of view character has to come to grips with the issue that lies deeply rooted in their brain, one feeling the world has gone mad while the other is locked in their mental asylum trying to escape the past. It might seem familiar to some who are currently hurting. Especially in today's world and how fast and quick we can change as a society.
Because of the impact and real implications it has to tell, both stories should be examined and read. There are lessons to be taught, and the author is able to convey all of them concisely.
